Yes, I mentioned that. It's where they recommend "not testing" repeatedly. No one takes a stance on mold levels because there are no standardized exposure limits. You can't take a stance with any validity on something that doesn't exist and would vary randomly from person to person. Especially if you're the government.

They also recommend testing. Repeatedly.

I think the EPA is the last group we should be quoting on this one- they've decided to leave the conversation.

this post should be called...Mold Smackdown 2014

too bad you're both from the Big Ten; we should get a Mold Championship Series (MCS) going next year.

Who's in for the SEC, ACC, PAC, etc.?

winner gets choice of free sample kit or a tour of the EPA office in Atlanta...Tshirt with Got Mold or No Mold imprint...bumper sticker reading, "FungusAmongUs" or "EatMoreFungi"

I'd say we've won the all time most viewed thread on mold anywhere.

Some good info, I'm in Texas and use to mold test but now choose to not do so.but I do fungal treatments I can make money in other areas, with that said I call out microbial growth when ever I find it which is fairly often. There is not a home that is 10 yrs old or so that I won't find mold in with air sampling. There is huge amounts of poorly and improperly installed HVAC systems that are the perfect environment for molds and legionella to grow.

Now with this said in order to have a more successful remediation we need to know what we are dealing with, is this what is often refered to is common lumber yard mildew or is this aspergillosis stachybotrys you know the deadly black mold lol. Not all molds are treated the same and in order to have a better remediation plan we need to know what we have.

Mildews will get much of their neutrals from air, molds often feed on organic matter such as wood, the paper on Sheetrock, etc, however the large amounts of air in hvac systems give ample food supply for fungal growth. Keep in mind people have issues with the mold spores whether they are live or dead spores so the idea we can just pray bleach and the problem is cured can be very inaccurate, mildew and some molds are easily treated with bleach, yet others are more aggressive and often when sprayed will launch spores into the air when attacked with bleach in order to sustain a new colony any protect its survival. Many people just looking at a dark fungal growth will do more harm than good by spraying.

Some microbial growth will respond with bleach, yet others the bleach does not have a long enough contact time, these types of molds will need a fungicide solution for a residual kill, yet other molds like aspergillus will generally be treated by removal with a containment, air scrubbers and possibly a fumigation with a acoustic hydrogen peroxide.

There are some that believe the curse of the mummy is aspergillosis which is caused by aspergillus exposure, some studies show that many people entering the mummy's tumbs actually were effected by aspergillisos creating there health issues. http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/aspergillosis/basics/definition/con-20030330

There is lots of good info on mold but even very poor info that ussually is driven for financial gain, although most molds are blown out of proportion there is validity in other portions.

One thing that chapped my ass was a press release the CDC did stating no one has ever died of mold, although this true it was rather insulting because realtors, insurance companies, sellers and buyers, etc took this as to mean that molds were no big deal, remember people don't die of AIDS either. They die of other health issues once they have aids. Here is a study on death of aspergillisos infected people. http://err.ersjournals.com/content/20/121/156.full

Several of the deaths that occurred by the first people entering the tumbs in Egypt may have been caused by aspergillus molds. It is documented but due to improper documentation we won't know http://www.antimicrobe.org/history/Aspergillus-Mummys%20curse.asp

If the CDC said that no one died from mold, they would be sorely mistaken.

That claim about the CDC is in desperate need of a reference or source.

It was on the radio several years back, i dont recall the Dr that stated this in an interview. I was listening to KTSA radio in san antonio, tx. IT was basically a press release that dr so & So with the cdc stated. I wont forget this because 30 seconds into it my thought was no one ever dies of aids, they die of a cold or something else. I tried to google this topic but havent pulled up the interview. Ill keep looking and post the audio if i find it.

In the sixties there were doctors who made bold statements about cigarettes. You could quote doctors saying they were safe and did not cause lung cancer. There were probably a few who said no one ever died of cigarettes.

Who cares what a doctor says on the radio?

The market doesn't. Hasn't been a week (outside of Christmas) that the number of samples we analyzed didn't increase.
