Does anybody know a good site for a description of a wall furnace? I ran into one today during an inspection. I wasn't able to test it because the pilot was not lit.

I'm actually looking for general info to pass on to the client. I doubt they will turn the thing on because the house also has a nice tempstar furnace. I have yet to add them to RecallChek because I'm waiting on their email address.

I'll give you my own description, just based on warranty experience:

Wall furnaces generally range from $400-$1500, some work with blowers and others not, and they generally heat an area of just one or two rooms. Maintenance is fairly minimal, they're very reliable, but the parts aren't as standardized as they are for standard air handlers so many repair needs result in replacement, which isn't very costly. It's also worth noting that like your clients, there are many wall units that go unutilized due to the presence of a central heating system, but many keep them installed as a backup in case the central system fails...which can save them a lot of money to use overnight instead of paying overtime fees to a HVAC contractor!

Some of the older units aren't very aesthetically pleasing. Newer replacements are readily available.
