Does anyone do this? I was talking with a Realtor today who said they wish I would do it.

I'm thing about using some small circles with RP - reverse poloarity, OG - open ground, NW - not working etc...

I just mentioned my opinion on this, on the "leave behind" sticker/cards/etc. thread.
Forever, out here, guys were using the "red dots," sometimes blank, sometimes written on. (I don't know what their report say, "See red dots?")
I have never done that; always considered that "defacing" someone else's property.
Without those, my process is: All my "deficiencies" are in tables, which have headings of "Deficiency," "Location," "Other Comments." Entries are in pull-down menus, so it goes pretty quickly, I think. I envision the repair guy, with my report summary in-hand, can interpret his repair task, easily, quickly and unequivocally.

I just bought some red stickers for this. I think it will be a hit.

Red Sticker = Reversed
Orange Sticker = Ungrounded
Black Sticker = Not Functioning

I use these

We use orange on ungrounded, and green on reverse polarity. We keep the dots on after we leave so if the seller needs to have items repaired, they know exactly which outlets they are and what the issue is with them.

Yea, but they still may have showings... How do you know the kids don't take them off, and or switch them around?

I don't. I tell the buyer agent and buyer we'll leave them there and they can communicate with the seller about it. If there's no agents there, we typically won't do it in an occupied house, vacant yes.

I've never had a kid or anyone else take them off. They are small enough to not even be noticed unless you knew they were there.

When is the last time you checked the outlet your computer is currently plugged into? I would say never.

I've never done it, but I do know a couple of inspectors who do, and they've both had irate sellers call them to come get those stickers off of their outlets. I usually just itemize the rooms or areas where I find a particular problem in my report, right behind the boilerplate, but I don't usually specify which particular outlet in the room or area.

If it's only a single receptacle, I take a picture with my tester plugged in and give the room and location.

When the entire room is affected (just had one last week), I take a single picture and write in the report all 10 receptacles in room ____ show open ground.

I was leaving post-it notes ... until a home owner asked me to come back and remove them! I did (of course) and stopped leaving them.

We don't at the interior, but we do use that bright colored duct tape to mark the areas of roof leaks...man that has helped a ton. Roofers who are too damn fat and lazy to get into attics, at least now get up there and see the area of leakage. We put them in the section where the leak is, we don't necessarily go all the way to the overhang and place the tape, just in the same bay.

There's no reason in my opinion for a picture of an outlet with reversed polarity unless the house is so clean you can't find things to take pictures of.

What would be a purpose of that picture?

To point out which one it is and the red sticker on it

I guess I don't understand the answer. There are hundreds of outlets in my home and if you showed me a picture of one of them it would look exactly the same as all of the others. Why should it be a picture in the report?
