Diamond Pier Footings are starting to appear in my area. The days of digging a hole and pouring concrete below the frost depth are gone with these. They are approved for the prescriptive code requirements in the IRC.

Looks interesting, I'll have to remember this when I go to redo my deck.

I have installed a few of these. They are amazing. The ability to move them if positions wrong, is incredible. When you think about it. You have a tested resistance to heaving, proven load bearing, and if you are into minimal impact they are the best way to go. If you see them on an inspection you don't need to wonder if the footing is adequate or not. My understanding is they are code compliant in MN and WI. Some of the guys here in Illinois are starting to use them.
