Is that electric or hot water in the ceiling? It's interesting that you can't see any pipes or wires. Don't get to see those very often around here.

Electric, panels were in the vaulted part of the ceiling/roof.

MSX is pretty cool! I haven't used pic-in-pic; msx might be better.

Personally, I do not think the e4 or e5 provide the quality you need to do a good job. I started with an i7 (about equal to the new e6) and it worked well. I have recently moved up to the T440bx. Like others here I am moving to expand my thermal imaging into a separate business. I managed to pay for my i7 in just over a year. So if your entering into thermal imaging I suggest you look at an e6 minimum. FLIR offers Open Box and Refirb's on their site. I purchased both of my cameras from them and they come with the full factory warranty just like new.

Last note. Training is important. Don't invest in a camera if you are not going to get trained. Monroe Infrared Technologies, http://monroeinfrared.com/ , has a "Certified Residential Thermographer" class which is very reasonable and will give a home inspector what they need. If your going to expand then Level1 training is the next step.

Just one mans opinion.

Willy

$2500 and above is steep to test the waters. Our E5 has worked well to get started but I do see the limitations. Might have to mod it at some point if it comes to that prior to an upgrade.

Good to see a Nor Cal neighbor, Willy.

Go to MonroeInfrared.com. They have a Certified residential Thermographer course. 2 day and is all you need to get started.

I was thinking of adding it as well. Does anyone have any input? Does it give you an advantage in your market?

I don't have an answer re the market aspect, but for inspections, to be able to detect moisture not otherwise discernible makes it a must.

Do you charge extra for it or include it with your inspections?

INCLUDED. When I started, I immediately raised my base price $25. I don't know how many jobs it has landed for me. I do the panel, and the ceilings (for insulation, and leaks for 2-stories.) I will likely continue that model. But I think I will additionally do what one of the local multi- firms does, and upcharge for a separate, more comprehensive scan (and include HVAC and air infiltration, simple no blower-door.) He experimented and found $90 for that add-on service appeared to be the "sweet spot" that buyers would pay for in this market.

This sounds like the path I will follow. Make it available but add on if the whole house is completed.
