are rectangular with very small print and the model and serials are on opposite ends, making it very hard to capture both in a photo and still be legible.

Problem: 1.6M recalled units bet I think 1998 to 2001. The model # still exists, so they show a potential match, falsely alarming clients of newer units.

Anyone come up with an easy work-around?

In some cases like that, you may want to manually enter the model number and use the data plate pic for the serial or vice versa.

Some manufacturers reuse the model numbers. The serial numbers have the date of manufacture coded somehow, which differentiate from one another. The RecallChek reports only require a model number, but both are helpful in some cases, such as this.

It's helpful having the serial numbers for recalled dishwashers because they are the most recalled appliance, and most reports require them to confirm a recall or not.

I could be wrong, but I'm betting the team that enters this information has zoom/rotate/enhance capability on the photos you take through the RecallChek app (or with your camera in general) so the fine print on labels such as this shouldn't be a problem. That's my guess anyway, but maybe someone from the RecallChek side can chime in with something official.

We definitely have the capability to do exactly that! We can zoom in and out and rotate if we need to.

That's exactly right. We have data entry personnel on 3 continents, all with insanely large screens capable of seeing the photos in their native resolution or better, and with multiple ways to manipulate a photo.

We hardly ever miss one, and when we do there's a darn good reason.

So go ahead- take your photos upside down, in bad light, or barely in focus!

Seems like my understanding has always been: If the HI cannot read their pic the RC inputters cannot either.

That would certainly save us time, but we love a challenge!

Yes, we prefer that and if the picture is completely gone we're not going to go CSI on it.
