I am thinking of doing a home inspection certification. Can anybody advise if I do it with American Home inspection training it would be accepted or declared equivalent by Ontario association of home inspectors? Secondly, is it mandatory to have the membership of Ontario association of home inspectors in order to get business?
Thx

If I were wanting to start in the home inspection business, and wanted the best possible start, I would go to Mike Casey's school.
http://www.caseyomalleyassociates.com/insurance-pages/Classes/Home-Inspection-Classes.php
If I did not want to go to California, I would go to Carson-Dunlap https://www.carsondunlop.com/home-inspector-training/
The education is complete as written by a couple of the first training people in the industry. I know and respect some of the best talent in the inspection industry who have been trained by each of them. Their leadership has been the core of the culture that has made home inspections a good living to raise and educate a family

Thx for your useful advice Dan. Do you think it's important to be a member of a local home inspectors association?

Yes, locally we have an ASHI chapter and I belonged.
After 35 years as a home inspector, I "retired" to be only an environmental inspector, and remain an honorary member of the chapter (thanks to the chapter) Sharing on local news, issues, etc will help you.
You should connect with RWS and start out with their Recallchek and Warranty programs to give you credulity nd a safety net so that people can hire "the new guy" without fear
The RWS TOP group and Mike Crow are good sources for help with growth. Either one can give you the tools and systems to succeed

Need ideas or a better training program for getting inspectors trained faster. It is taking to long for inspectors to complete their online training and I do not have an office were they can come in for hours a day.
I onsite train too but because of geographical locations and limited time onsite and trainee availability there only getting a few inspections a week.

For our Florida inspectors, we have a field trip coming up August 8. We'll be on a new home build in the pre-drywall stage. The builder Ron Hamel, also a home inspector, will guide us through the project and even look through the blueprints. We'll also have Jeff Clair, our Senior Technical Advisor and multi-trade contractor present. A GREAT learning experience. Our pre-licensure class starts August 10. It includes all 120 State required hours, books and the exam. If you know anyone looking to become a home inspector, we appreciate a referral!
