Another thing from todays inspection by the electrical panel is a handyman box marked furnace. It has 2 ends of an extension cord coming out of and connected together. The client said the owner said it was for connection to a generator. Is this something worth writing up?

I would. A generator should not be connected that way. Plus, what does it serve? I'd recommend removal or a listed generator transfer switch be installed.

Anytime I see an extension cord serving as permanent wiring, I write it up.
